We the People, January 3, 1997

By Shirley

I was quite disappointed by this second season opener. All the progress that had been made in the second half of Season One seems to have been for naught. We were back again to square one, on a new network, with an episode that is reminiscent of early season one, and not as enjoyable. Lots of action, but ... Also, I don't care for this new partner, Mac. Oh, she's quite beautiful, but she lacks in the acting department. Now, hopefully, a lot of that is due to being in a new role, and trying to find her character. I sure hope so. Mac is so joyless and cold. I miss Meg. She was warm and fun.

And what's with the flashbacks? Who was that Mac lookalike? Will they ever explain it?

The Bud character shows a lot of promise. I just hope they don't overdo it and turn him into a caricature. Resident funnyman, sure, but give him some depth too, please.

Harm has a new haircut, quite a bit shorter. I'll give myself a few episodes to decide whether I like it or not. He looks different.

Altogether, the feel of the episode is of TPTB trying to cover all their bases. Lots of action, a bit of humour, some sexy banter (which Mac didn't quite pull off), and a story that would've played nicely on the summer movie circuit. I sure hope the rest of the season is better.
