Empty Quiver, February 25, 2003

Ten million dollars, a misplaced nuclear weapon and a dog's name set the stage for this episode of JAG entitled Empty Quiver.

Empty Quiver is term for the loss of a nuclear weapon. I have to admit when I saw the commercial for this episode my mind went back to Enemy Below. I was disappointed to say the least in this episode. It did give comedic moments, but it wasn't as harrowing as some of the previous episodes have been.

However, soap opera fans were probably giddy with delight at seeing AMC ex-Ryan Lavery and Passions ex-Ethan Crane. For fans of My Two Dads, Greg Evigan played a Master Chief involved in Harm's storyline.

Mac took the Admiral's place in the whole episode because of his injuries from Heart and Soul. It was also used to mask her pregnancy weight gain and still keep her on the show. Several bulletin boards have mentioned how grateful they are to have Catherine Bell still in the front lines of a storyline even with her pregnancy nearing its end.

Mac held together the office even as she explained to Harm that Harriet had morning sickness, he and Sturgis were gone and half the staff had the flu. Harm didn't make her job any easier leaving the office when he wasn't supposed to. What I thought was funny was him taking a flight to Norfolk thinking he was going to be able to use it to get back before 3pm and then finding out that Sturgis was taking the helo to the USS Crawford. He couldn't get a flight back because of the lockdown the base in Norfolk was under due to Sturgis' storyline.

Meanwhile, Sturgis is sent to the USS Crawford when a nuclear weapon is found missing from its tube. Sturgis takes every man through what happened that day one by one. Together they piece the events of the day together including the test that was done to clear the tubes. By the end of the show, it's found that the nuclear weapon that went missing was shot out of its tube during the test to clear the tubes. So the weapon was in the ocean back at Norfolk where Harm's storyline was taking place.

Harm's storyline had to do with missing money from the dispersement office. The dispersement office holds the money that is used on the ship. Because Harm has no way back to JAG Headquarters he hangs out in the Connelly where the dispersing officer worked before he was arrested. With the help of the Master Chief, Harm finds that several dispersing forms were signed with the man's signature after he was arrested. They figure out that the only person that could of done it was Petty Officer Marin. Meanwhile, Marin is about to get away with $10 million dollars meant for the Connelly. Harm stops him before he can get away.

While the JAG crew is working, AJ is home recuperating from surgery with his new found dog, who saved his life in Heart and Soul. AJ hasn't come up with a name yet even with Meredith's help. She wants to use a Shakespearian name, but the dog doesn't respond. Only when the Admiral ends a command with an expletive does the dog react. Therefore, the dog's name is the expletive. I would use the word if there wasn't a profanity clause on the website.

I can tell you that the dog's name led to a hilarious end to the show where AJ introduces the dog to Harm and Mac. The dog jumps up on Mac's desk knocking over the files that she just completed. The last sentence of the show is called out by Mac but viewers aren't sure if its used as an expletive or if she's using the dog's name.
