A sexual harrassment case that takes a
shocking twist, Bud's recovery, and the on-going relationship of Meredith
and AJ are the focus points of this JAG episode entitled Offensive
Action.
Mary
Page Keller stars as Commander Beth O'Neil, a female pilot who heads up
her own squadron of pilots. Beth is accused of sexual harrassment by a
male officer and Harm defends with Manetti while Mac and Sturgis
prosecute.
Harm disbelieves Beth as he hears testimony from other men. Manetti
believes she is innocent and it isn't until Harm finds out that Beth is a
lesbian that he believes her innocence.
I have
to admit that if it were not for Meredith and AJ, I would have found this
episode rather boring. Although, I did like the scene with Manetti and
Harm in the hallway when they were talking about Cursy's looks and Harm
had to admit to Manetti that Cursy is an attractive man. Harm was
hilarious as he stuttered when talking about Cursy's good looks. It's
hilarious to see how a man talks about another man's appeal.
The other part I also liked was with Harm and Mac on the tarmac talking
about O'Neil and her innocence or guilt. By this time, Harm knows of her
sexual preference and goads Mac with the reminder of how Mac had an affair
with a superior officer before joining JAG. He doesn't hold back with the
reminder. For a reminder of her and Colonel Farrow's affair watch Mr.
Rabb goes to Washington and People vs. Mac.
As
for Bud's recovery, it's halted when Bud starts feeling sorry for himself.
He feels unattractive because of his prosthesis and only when he sees how
his ex-roommate met a new woman even with his prosthesis, he realizes that
he can go on with his recovery and not feel sorry for himself.
I felt sorry for Harriet as well as Bud as they remembered romantic times
from the past. That's when Bud's self-consciousness seemed to take affect.
Meanwhile, for the best part of the show, AJ and Meredith had another
date. This came after the Admiral was sent a tape of Meredith being very
romantic. It wouldn't have bothered him as much if Tiner hadn't been
holding the remote and wouldn't give it up.
I can't believe Meredith would send such a video to a place of business
and not put something on it to tell him who it was from.
As for
the date, it was--like every other date--a catastrophe. AJ choked on a
fish bone, there was a fire and then when she was giving him a massage she
popped something in his back. The pain in his eyes was evident as the pop
resounded through the air. Then the next day he shuffled into work and
evaded questions of worry from Harriet and Tiner.
As for the flying lesson that Harm gave Meredith, it was recalled in the
beginning of this episode as Harm looks to AJ for advice when he starts
getting calls from Meredith about more lessons. Instead of telling him
what to do, AJ tells him he'll think of something to tell her and Harm
looks upset as he walks out.
Harm actually looked kind of scared at the thought of talking to Meredith
and so did the Admiral. That may be why he didn't offer to talk to
Meredith himself.
Commander O'Neil is found innocent after Harm makes Cursy doubt his
allegations. O'Neil leaves after thanking them. Sturgis and Mac come over
and want them to tell what O'Neil's secret was to which Harm and Manetti
wittily reply in tandem 'don't ask'.
