Harm took his
coffee out on the porch and picked
up the paper, wet from the early morning rain. Even
though he had a sweatshirt on over his T-shirt the
cool air still seeped in detected by every muscle in
his body.
Rose waved at him before the bus blocked his view
of the twins. He waved back knowing they would see him
through the bus window. It had been four months since
Palmer kidnapped his little girl and two months since
Rose had her last session with a pyschiatrist that
Harm knew from his time with Jordan.
Since the kidnapping, Harm knew where his children
were every minute of the day. After Rose went back to
school, he would call from his office at Langely to
make sure Rose and Trey were still in class. Nothing
was ever going to happen to another one of his
children again.
Speaking of taking care of his loved ones, Harm
took a glass of orange juice into his sleeping wife. A
blanket covered her from the neck down. Harm sat on
his side of the bed and watched her sleep.
"Ma-a-a-c!" He drew out her name and he tickled
her cheek with a piece of her hair. Mac scratched at
her cheek and moaned. "Ma-a-a-c!" Harm sang her name
again.
This time Mac rolled over and groaned. Harm laid a
hand on the bulge in the middle of her body. His baby
was asleep inside Mac's stomach, warmed by a bubble of
fluid and entertained by his mother's heartbeat. Harm
couldn't love Mac any more than he already did.
"What do you want?" She snapped as she opened her
eyes.
"I brought juice." Harm showed her the glass of
orange fluid that was freshly squeezed---okay, freshly
squeezed from the can.
Mac sat up and brushed straggly dark hair from her
face. "Where are the kids?"
"Rose and Trey have had breakfast and are on their
way to get an education. Are you ready to get up? We
have an appointment with Amy in two hours."
Amy Carlson worked at the George Washington
Birthing Center where the twins had made their
entrance. She was also brought in four months ago when
an ambulance took a stressed out Mac to the emergency
room. "I'll take you to breakfast if you hurry."
Mac glared at him. "I'm six months pregnant, Harm.
You're lucky I have the energy to put up with you."
Harm took that as a mood swing. He was used to
them. After all, they weren't as bad as when she was
pregnant with the twins and she told him she would
rather have Trish and Frank in the house than him.
Then he was offended. Now he let it run off his back
like water off a duck.
"I love you, Ninja Girl." He kissed her on the
lips licking the sweet taste of orange juice from them
and left the room.
Boy! This was going to be a long day.
