By Shirley Annie and Josh enter Harm's life again.
This time around, though, there is a development in the relationship.
Question: do we really want Harm getting involved in any kind of
relationship with a single Mom still trying to deal with her grief for her
dead husband? Annie's attractiveness as a mate for Harm is intense. Luke
was his best friend. What better way for Harm to honour his best friend's
memory than by taking care of his family. And the best way to do that is
to marry Luke's widow and be a father to Luke's son. I think that Harm
subconsciously came to that very logical conclusion, and as he kept
visiting, he fell in love with Annie and with the idea of a wife, a child
and a home. He himself admitted that at first he only came to check on
them, then it changed. The dream sequence is extremely telling and
substantiates this. Harm still regarded Annie as belonging to Luke, and he
needed Luke's permission. Once that hurdle was cleared, we see Harm
settling into his role as man of the house - he cooks breakfast, offers to
take Josh to school, does repairs around the house. He seemed to relish
the new role. Perhaps he even deluded himself into believing that he could
settle down.
