Ghost Ship, September 23, 1997

By Shirley

I waited for this third season opener with a great deal of breathless anticipation. The second season had a few disappointments, but there were many highpoints. The question is will they pick up where they left off?

First of all, Harm has a new haircut: new season, new haircut. It's even shorter than last season, and sleeker. Hmmm. I'll have to think about it.

In the meantime, Harm actually cries in this episode. They are letting him cry, in a season opener. It's a very brave decision, and DJE does it beautifully. No hint that this makes Harm less of a man. Au contraire. Is there a woman out there who wouldn't want to put her arms around him and comfort him? Of course, he's got a touch of concussion. But still, tears are tears. Take note, all you brave men out there. It's OK to cry.

Mac definitely has strong feelings for Harm. Those weren't just medical-type touches. She was caressing him. And this imposter Falcon (Rex Linn, the skipper in Shadow), who turns out to be a Russian spy, was he really attracted to Mac, or was it a put on? And come on, does he honestly think he can compete with Harm? Not.

I had been concerned, watching the ads for the ep, that they were going the sci-fi route. What else could I think, with the dissolving ghost in the hatch snippet? Thank goodness they didn't. As Bellisario said, and I paraphrase, he doesn't do soap opera. He doesn't do sci-fi either.

It's nice to have Webb back. I am getting quite fond of the Special Assistant. I think that deep down, he's a good guy, 'corrupted' by the CIA. When the chips are down, Webb'll do the right thing.

Looks like Bud and Harriet are going to be serious. But Bud as a girl's Friday night dream date? Sure, why not.
