Harm and Meg are sent to investigate a Marine who is now in a coma when he is found on the beach during a maneuver.  They meet with the Captain in charge who is tough as nails and who when he starts to attack Harm's abilities as a Navy Pilot, Meg jumps to Harms defense.  The Captain does not believe that the marine who is in the coma had it in him to be a top notch marine.  He was not tough enough in the Captainss opinion and in the opinion of the people who serve under the Captain.  Harm and Meg believe that the Marine was injured in a Code Red that the sergeant ordered.  While in the room they are using as an office, we learn that Meg once dated a Italian pilot and that the signal she uses a Hook em Horns sign for her hometown football team actually has a different meaning in other places.  Harm jokes around with her about dating a pilot.

They go to visit with the marines family and his doctor at the hospital.  The doctor also believes it was the Captain's fault that the marine is in the coma.  The mother of the marine and the marine's younger brother Tyler are at his bedside.  Tyler is drawing the local gang tag on his brother's cast.  They ask the mother if the marine was in a gang and she says no he wasn't, matter of fact he went into the service to get away from the gangs.  Meg gives Tyler the Hook em Horn sign and Tyler gives it back because its the local gang sign as well and Harm and Meg now know that Tyler is in the gang and that possibly the brother was at one time.

A box full of drugs are found on the beach and it is now believed that the local gang was trying to get the marine to sell them on the base and that is why he got the beating.

The Captain goes to the hospital when no one else is around.  He tries to get the marine to wake up finally he yellingly orders the marine awake and the marine does wake up.  The doctor is flabbergasted that the marine woke up because the Captain told him to.  Harm and Meg go to visit the marine and the marine confirms that the gang sent him in to sell drugs on the base and because when he refused to sell them, he actually loved being in the Marines, they beat him up.  His brother is now in the gang and he doesn't know what to do about him being in there.

The Marine captain goes to the gang's hideout, knocks on the door with the secret knock which makes the viewer believe that at one time, he also was in this gang.  He tries to get Tyler to come out with him but the gang ends up taking him hostage.  Harm and Meg go in to try to help the Captain but instead the gang leader takes Meg hostage as well and Harms wings.  He will return the prisoners and the wings when Harm gives the drugs back.

Harm goes to the marine who was in the coma to try to come up with a strategy for getting everyone back safely.  He then gets some marines together and they go in and get everyone out safely and Tyler is put on a bus to a Boot Camp for wayward teenagers until he is old enough to join the marines.

I really enjoyed this episode.

This episode stands out in my mind mainly for the interaction between Harm and Meg. And these scenes are in stark contrast to the rather predictable humdrum military stuff around them. Harm and Meg on the beach, conversing about the case, but the looks, and the body language! When Capt. Overton attacks Harm, implying that he couldn't hack it as a pilot, Meg is like a tigress in her fury. Of course, the one scene that really stands out is the hook'em horns scene in the barracks. Meg is so sweet and naïve as she slowly realizes the significance of the gesture to her one time date, the Italian pilot. And what can match the absolute delight on Harm's face when he hears her innocently reveal that she had dated a pilot once. "You know, if you date one pilot ... "

The rest of the story is a rather run-of-the-mill one about drugs and gangs and a marine captain who would risk his life to help one of his recruits. The gang angle is interesting, but I suspect far from the truth. It does allow us to see a bit more into Harm's personality though. He values those wings of gold; one can see it in the way he cradles it in his hand when he got them back. And he is as tough as he needs to be, not giving an inch to the gang. The bottom line, don't mess with Harmon Rabb.
