Ok, I have found a new service that will allow you to upload your own counter digits to their server where people without access to CGI can use their own custom counter digits. So I have updated the instructions to show the new service, Jellycounter. The service does not allow for transparent images so I have also changed the instructions for that as well. The only thing I don't like about Jellycounter is that they make the counter clickable where someone will be able to click on it to go back to Jellycounter and sign up for their own counter but actually in the long run that isn't too bad because most free counters that you find do that now and they periodically throw in a pop up banner when your page loads. Its a couple of irritations but they are officially the only service out there (that I know of) that allows you to use your own counter digits by uploading to their server.

1. Open new image 50 x 50, transparent background.

2. Flood fill with your background image or fill.

2. Layers: New Rastor Layer

3. Using your tube tool, find the tube you would like to use. I chose one I found here: Janes Wallpaper Fills and More. I used size 35. But you will need to play with it to figure out the size appropriate for the tube you are using. Center it on the bottom.

4. Layers: New Rastor Layer.

5. Using your eye dropper tool, choose a color from your tube image that will match well with your background color but try to choose a lighter color as it will show better. Now, using your text tool, Type the number 0 using a font of your choice. I used Book Antiqua, Size 28, Bold and Centered. Center on top of your image just a little. Where it kinda nestles right on the top.

6. I have found when doing the number 0, inside of the zero it shows the tube I have used. Make Layer 2 active. Using your eraser tool using the following settings and making sure to zoom in at least twice to make the image bigger, erase the parts of the tube that you see inside the zero:

10. The new service I used to set the digit counter up is Jellycounter. Head on over to .

11. You will see a sign up form which you need to put in your email address, choose a password and then put your password in again. Then hit press here.

12. Go all the way down your choices and you will see a choice for your own digits. Check that.

13. Now you need to enter the url for your directory where you put your counter digits, for example http://www.fluffykitten.net/~rosepetal/digits. Remember the digits you put in that directory need to be named 0.gif through 9.gif or Jellycounter will not be able to recognize them.

14. Next you need to put the size of your counter digits. If you have followed this tutorial correctly then your digits size for width will be 50 and for height will be 50.

15. Where they asked me to subscribe to I unchecked the box. Now also make sure to scroll down and uncheck all the other boxes for things they want you to subsribe to. Then go back up and click the Confirm and Accept button. Your counter will then be completed and the code that you need to copy and paste into your web page will be emailed to the account you provided at sign up.

Hope you liked that tutorial. The actual setting up the counter is more difficult then making the graphics for it. :)
